Inspiring Minds to Showcase Accomplishments

SUMMER MARKET: Inspiring Minds will host its second annual summer market from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Warren G. Harding High School’s Mollenkopf Stadium, 860 Elm Road NE, Warren. The event is part of the 12th annual Inspiring Minds summer enrichment program that will celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of the program’s 350 students. The market will highlight what the students in grades third to 12th learned about entrepreneurship by showcasing more than 30 businesses they created throughout the summer program.

FRIENDS HOLD FUNDRAISER: Friends of the Mosquito Lake Park will present a flea market and craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the beach area and woods area. The event will take place rain or shine. Those taking part are to bring their own tables and canopy. Vendor sign-up begins at 6:30 a.m. Free shuttle service will be available. Cost for a space is $20 or two for $35.

RETIREES TO MEET: The Police and Fire Retirees of Ohio Chapter 10, District 2, for Trumbull, Mahoning and Ashtabula counties will meet 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Drive.

FIUNDRAISER EVENT: Operation Christmas Child will host a garage sale fundraiser 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday to Saturday at 4379 Hoffman Norton Rod, West Farmington.

GRIEF SHARE: Grief Share will meet 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the Family Life Center at Life Church, 610 S. Leavtt Road, Leavittsburg. To register, visit www.GriefShare.org. Call 330-898-1131.

SOCIETY TO MEET: The Johnston Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township hall for its monthly meeting.

SCRABBLE AT THE LIBRARY: McKinley Memorial Library invites the public to a friendly round of the classic crossword game with fellow Scrabble lovers from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. The program will take place in the library on the second Wednesday of every month. Game boards and tiles will be provided. Staff will be available to answer questions but will not participate.

SPELLING BEE: The Trumbull Retired Teachers Association will host its annual spelling bee at 1 p.m. Thursday at the historical stage at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds.

FUNDRAISER HELPS ANIMALS: Small World Animal Rescue will host a benefit yard sale from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at 945 N. State St., Girard, The event will take place rain or shine. Items are $1 to $5. All proceeds help animals. For information, call 330-727-1878.

BIRD PROGRAM: The Girard Free Library will host a program on“Soaring Our Skies: The Bald Eagle” at 6 p.m. today. Amy Reeher of the Trumbull County Soil and Water Conservation District will discuss the country’s national bird. Free educational material will be provided.

A program on international foods will be presented at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday where participants will be able to try different snacks.

The Akron Zoo will be at the library at 11 a.m. Wednesday. A mind, body and sole interactive and educational animal program will take place that gives participants a chance to test their own athletic abilities.

RELAY FOR LIFE: George “Nitro” Caskey has walked numerous relays to raise awareness and support cancer research. He has helped plan and organize countless benefits for families and individuals battling the devastating disease. His friends are banding together to help Caskey, who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer. They are planning a benefit for him from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Ice House Inn, 5516 W. Webb Road, Austintown.

Caskey is an avid motorcycle rider. His father was a retired Philadelphia police officer, and Caskey is a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 372, having held offices and positions and assisting with numerous causes.

The benefit in Caskey’s honor will include a spaghetti dinner, basket and 50/50 raffles, and live music. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at the Ice House the day of the event or by contacting 330-559-0448.

FUSED GLASS BOWL: The Paul and Yetta Gluck School of Visual Arts at the Jewish Community Center in Youngstown is offering a fused-glass bowl workshop for ages 18 and older from 6 to 8 p.m. July 18. Participants will design a bowl using fused glass to create new addition to their home decor. Cost is $30 for JCC members and $40 for nonmembers. Registration is needed by Friday.
